Product Line Architects shape product line technology development by testing new technologies with the potential to improve business outcomes. The incumbent?s deep knowledge of the product line technology coupled with their execution of regular test and learn activities enable them to bring business outcome improving technologies to their product line aligned with the overall strategic vision for Supply Chain managed by the RDE LT.
In the test and learn activity that defines their solution engineering role, they will be expected to broadly understand technology innovation opportunities and specifically how they apply to their product line. In the acquisition and application of this innovative thinking, they will work with the RDE LT (strategic alignment), RDE R&D team, external thought leaders, vendors, educational institutions and others inside and outside of the business. This leading-edge technology thinking will be tested, documented and, where appropriate, built into the product line roadmaps managed by the JJSC BT Product Line.
Product Line Architects will also be responsible for describing the current state of technology in a product line, identification of near-term efficiency and lifecycle opportunities, and the development of more aspirational target environments for the mid and long-term future.
Position Responsibilities include:
+ Leads and coordinates development of future state product line technology architecture through test and learn activities executed with an engineering mindset. Deep product knowledge, understanding of the relevant technology in the marketplace and the application of architecture principles, such as agility through modularity should be reflected in these tests and learn activities.
+ The architecture will also include patterns, usage options, risks, costs vs. benefits, and impacts on other business processes and system priorities and align with the strategic architecture being developed at the RDE Leadership level.
+ Architecture deliverables should provide detailed technical direction product line owners & TS can use to develop product line technology roadmaps and implement projects within the product line scope. The future state will provide technology direction for initiatives in the next business plan. It will also guide technology planning for initiatives within the long-range financial plan.
+ Ensures current state architecture is documented and communicated. This will include analysis and completion/correction of metadata describing applications and business services, technology and application lifecycle risk, analysis and approval of service level agreements, identification of gaps needed to support existing capabilities, and other related topics.
+ Included in the current state responsibility is the identification and sponsored delivery of operating benefit via tactical architecture improvements. For example, eliminating applications or upgrading an unstable system, leveraging EDG, etc.
+ Consults with business and technology partners to understand and apply architecture. The focus will be on the program development phase of SDLC. Optimally, these discussions will be conducted using reference architecture material already developed. If that material is new, unclear, or absent, it will be necessary to work with program teams to understand the architecture guidance applicable to their initiative. The consulting engagement should result in ?project ready? guidance for the project team and, where necessary, new or updated next generation architecture content leverageable by future teams.
+ Contributes to the SC BT Architecture being developed by RDE Leaders. Ensures all Product Line strategies and deliverables are consistent with next generation architecture.
+ Contribute content to the FEA community via meeting participation, white paper development, master class teaching assignments, FEA topic leadership, and in other ways to fully engage with the broader J&J EA community.
+ Promote and improves the architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results across SC and J&J.
+ Works across SCIT Research and Design to improve organizational and process effectiveness.
Required Minimum Education:
+ Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, System Analysis or a related field. Or equivalent work experience.
Required Years of Related Experience:
+ 5+ years of IT and business/industry work experience including solution engineering, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
+ 5+ years of information technology experience including dealing with development teams, innovation teams, and vendors.
+ 5+ years of knowledge of architecture at some level.
+ General knowledge of Supply Chain functional business processes and enabling IT technologies for Plan, Source, Make & Deliver driving automation and in applying new technologies to these business processes
+ In-depth knowledge of product line process and technology specific to this product line?s architecture scope.
+ Track record of researching and evaluating emerging technologies and market trends.
+ Ability to travel 10-15% as required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Knowledge of Level 2 & 3 business processes within the ERP function (e.g., Inventory Management, Order Management, Master Data Management, Cost Accounting etc.) and how they interact with other SC functions.
+ Knowledge of Applications and Application Vendors in the ERP function (e.g., SAP ECC and S4, JDA One World, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) and how they fit with the overall JJIT architecture.
+ Familiarity with data and analytics driving ERP metrics (e.g., e2e order throughput time, master data accuracy, time to implement, cost to upgrade, etc.)
+ Knowledge of the Medical Device, Consumer and/or Healthcare industry
+ Track record influencing technology solution usage
+ Experience working in a global environment
+ Track record of driving business value through information technology
+ Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, including formal presentation skills; multi-language skills is a plus
+ Ability to successfully manage multiple critical issues simultaneously
+ Experience in working with multiple competing stakeholders and priorities
+ Ability to influence, negotiate and communicate with both external customers and internal stakeholders
+ Ability to influence technology decision-making
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
+ Familiarity with trends in ERP technology (e.g., modularization, SaaS, external collaboration, In Memory Computing, etc.)
+ Familiarity with the impact of new technology as applied to ERP. (e.g., artificial intelligence, responsive GUI, Agile data (EADS), Blockchain integration, etc.)
+ Experience implementing ERP projects
+ Experience supporting ERP applications.
+ Some ERP development is a plus.
+ Excellent understanding of product planning and execution, knowledge of healthcare, business theory, processes, management, budgeting and business office operations. Lean requirements gathering and story mapping experience. Ability to pick up technical and business concepts quickly. Proactively creates and communicates deep industry and business insights, excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, exceptional service orientation, strong negotiating skills. Able to create context around key business drivers and strategic plan, able to present ideas in business-friendly language.
