Description

IntroductionSoftware Developers at IBM are the backbone of our strategic initiatives to design, code, test, and provide industry-leading solutions that make the world run today - planes and trains take off on time, bank transactions complete in the blink of an eye and the world remains safe because of the work our software developers do. Whether you are working on projects internally or for a client, software development is critical to the success of IBM and our clients worldwide. At IBM, you will use the latest software development tools, techniques and approaches and work with leading minds in the industry to build solutions you can be proud of.Your Role and ResponsibilitiesYou will work with a team of fellow Level3 and Development Software Engineers on two z/OS products, CL/SuperSession ( CL/SS ) and AF/Operator to complete defect fixes via APAR/PTF delivery along with the occasional small New Function development project in response to customer Request for Enhancements ( RFE ). The two products share common source code for their 'Engine Components'. CL/SuperSession is IBM's strategic Session Manager product in the z/OS environment. CL/SS is in active marketing/sales strategy and in active development. It is an important component of IBM's strategy to compete with OEM competitors for application and middleware business in z/OS.AF/Operator is a z/OS automation product that is written in Assembler for the base product and REXX for the applications that run on it with 3 currently supported applications. It can automate the IPL of the entire LPAR and as such is normally the very first application that is started during an IPL. AF/Operator uses the z/OS SSI and therefore will see all messages and commands in the system. Apart from normal message trapping for automation purposes, AF/Operator will also trap on operator commands allowing for disabling certain commands or resubmitting commands after verification of format or changing commands to enforce client standards. All these tasks are programmable in REXX. AF/Operator also provides infrastructure monitoring capabilities like establishing and maintaining connections between AF/Operators, TCPIP connections, PLEX connections to the coupling facility, etc. It also has several independent tasks like AFTCI that provide for TSO commands within the AF REXX scripts as well as POVI that provide screen scraping of 3270 sessions and key stroke logging and playback. AF/Operator is an essential part of the data center and most AF customers have a lot of locally developed automation procedures that are essential for stable processing of their workloads.Required Technical and Professional Expertise+ Assembler language reading/coding including Macro level.+ Dump analysis SVC, system and SLIP dumps.+ z/OS internal knowledge including z/OS SSI interface, SYSPLEX and coupling facility.+ TSO, ISPF and JCL+ REXX and the REXX function package+ TCP/IP and VTAM+ Drive and eagerness to learnPreferred Technical and Professional Expertise+ Strong problem solving and communication skills+ Some knowledge in general software development, including language, programming, testing, debugging.+ Knowledge of z/OS and Systems Programming along with SMP/E, RACF, TCPIP, Catalogs, Storage Management, etc.+ IBM Z products knowledge, working experience or industry knowledge on client a plusOptionally it would be nice to have some knowledge of the following:+ SMP/E+ SMF+ JES3+ Interfaces knowledge to Omegamon, Netview and IMS+ Basic knowledge of z/OS setup and customization as related to system IPL and workload analysis+ Work from home or IBM zSystems hub lab ( SVL, Raleigh, etc.)About Business UnitIBM Systems helps IT leaders think differently about their infrastructure.
