At IBM, you will use the latest software development tools, techniques and approaches and work with leading minds in the industry to build solutions you can be proud of.Your Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Accelerated Materials Discovery group at IBM Research - Almaden is focusing on the development of technology to enable the integration of AI systems, automated laboratory experimentation, and the domain expert knowledge of the human scientists. Our tools, in conjunction with knowledge management systems in chemistry, will be used to rapidly accelerate the discovery and development of new catalysts or high performance materials as well as address fundamental scientific questions relevant to the domains of catalysis, organic, and polymer chemistry.The software developer will be responsible for:* Collaboration with research scientists and domain experts in construction of both new AI models and the development software infrastructure to accelerate research efforts* Integration of existing group software toolkits within larger IBM Research software/cloud ecosystem* Ensure compliance of group software systems with requisite security protocols* Development and maintenance of REST APIs for software toolkits* Development of software systems and data infrastructure to integrate with diverse physical research hardware systems and robotic platforms to automate data collection/data harvesting* Development and improvement of UI/UX for demo systems* Prototyping and training AI models pertinent to end-to-end materials discovery* Preparation, maintenance, and management of source code repositories, including documentation, tutorials, and demosThis position requires strong and frequent collaboration with computer scientists, chemists and materials scientists across different departments. As such, the software developer needs, in addition to technical skills listed below, good written and oral communication skills and demonstrated success in team-based projects.Required Technical and Professional Expertise+ At least one (1) year experience of each of the following: Python, JavaScript, Node.js, React or Angular+ Familiarity with C# and ASP.NET, Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Travis CI, SQL, Mongodb and/or noSQL databases+ Proactive and rigorous approach to software design, development, maintenance, and documentation.Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise+ Practical experience in developing and deploying full-stack applications with various architectures+ Experience in engineering, orchestrating, and maintaining complex software/hardware ecosystems+ Practical experience training deep learning models and tracking the fast-evolving field of deep learning techniquesAbout Business UnitWith more than 3,000 researchers in 12 labs located across six continents, IBM Research brings together hundreds of researchers who possess unparalleled industry expertise to address some of the world's most challenging problems.
