Description

The Role

At Cisco, we are transforming communication and collaboration.

Help us write the next chapter

You'll be envisioning the future of AI-powered wearables and AV communication devices. Your work will impact millions of people every day. Imagine creating unprecedented disruption at scale. Your ideas will affect everything from retail and healthcare to entertainment and education, in both public and private sectors.

With over eight Red Dot Awards for ID in the past two years alone, our Team is charting an exciting new course for design excellence on a global stage.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Industrial design from concept to product launch.
  • Practice and evangelize good design process, practice, principles, and patterns.
  • Facilitate communication across product teams through all phases of product development.
  • Work closely with interaction designers and engineers to achieve desired UX outcomes.
  • Create ground-up conceptual designs and suggest product direction based on field research and business requirements.
  • Plan and execute human factors studies, user testing, surveys, etc., and iterate designs based on user and customer feedback.
  • Produce rapid prototypes for proof of concept validation using digital fabrication methods.
  • Produce compelling visual concept illustrations from low fidelity hand sketching to high fidelity photoshop and keyshot 3D digital renderings.
  • Deep knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Translate / iterate / build concepts in 3D CAD suitable for hand off to engineering and model makers - expert paramertric CAD and surfacing skills in Solidworks, Creo, or NX.
  • Build solid rapport with engineering teams while guiding them towards high quality design implementation.
  • Contribute to a world class design culture - be curious, be passionate, be inspired, inspire others....make stuff.

Who You'll Work With:

You will work closely with other industrial designers, visual designers, interaction designers, user researchers, product managers, and engineers to define the ID and user experience of Cisco's collaboration products.

Who You Are:

  • You understand design is about problem solving.
  • You are a maker. You have mechanical aptitude and tinker on arduino projects, robotics, or smart home prototypes in your spare time. You appreciate that the design of a three dimensional object goes deeper than that fancy Keyshot rendering.
  • You're a craftsman/craftswoman. You have a strong attention to detail. Your work shows you care.
  • You're a student of design. Whether formal or self-taught, you have a thorough understanding of design process, principles, and patterns.
  • You embrace lean processes: iterate, fail fast and fail better to learn and achieve desired outcomes.
  • You leave your ego on the sidelines. You understand the best ideas can come from anyone.
  • You are diligent in keeping your projects well organized.
  • You have excellent time-management and prioritization skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to deliver results across multiple projects running in parallel.
  • You have experience working within a design system that serves a diverse product portfolio as well as the ability to influence an evolving design language.
  • You can deliver well-thought-out designs with minimal direction.
  • You have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an industrial designer at a tech company with track record of successful product launches.
  • You have an MFA or BFA degree in industrial design.

Please include:

  • A link to your portfolio which clearly shows your ability to conceptualize, communicate, and deliver compelling product designs.

We are Cisco:

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference. Here's how we do it.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we're "old" (30 years strong!) and only about hardware, but we're also a software company. And a security company. A blockchain company. An AI/Machine Learning company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can't put us in a box!

But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, we give our egos a break and we give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, we take bold steps, and we take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a commitment to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool.
