Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM Blockchain Services is seeking a senior design lead with a user experience (UX) or visual design background for its global practice. A strong portfolio of work is required.

As part of IBM's Global Business Services division, IBM Blockchain Services is charged with educating the market about blockchain, advising clients on how blockchain can improve their businesses and building new blockchain solutions on behalf of clients.

The Senior Design Lead will wear multiple hats, but can expect to:

* Manage, mentor and upskill junior designers with various creative backgrounds and career experiences
* Mature the team's design practice globally, activating teams around the world and prototyping, evolving and scaling methods
* Contribute to the strategic business direction of the global Blockchain Services practice
* Drive demand in strategic focus areas (blockchain identity, supply chain transformation, decentralized finance, etc.)
* Facilitate Enterprise Design Thinking Workshops (virtual and in-person) with clients both pre- and post-sale
* Build demos, prototypes, and production-level client solutions utilizing the IBM Garage method
* Support strategic consulting, offering management, enablement, activation and marketing efforts
* Collaborate and drive alignment with colleagues across all divisions of IBM

This is a global role, and, when safe, some travel will be required. This is an opportunity to provide strategic design leadership for a practice in one of IBM's "hypergrowth" areas. Responsibilities include:

* Responding dynamically to changing market conditions and client needs
* Advising leadership on market and practice needs and trends
* Setting high-level design direction and goals to ensure a consistent and engaging experiences
* Juggling of multiple ongoing projects
* Day-to-day direction of design team members and communication with extended team members
* Hands-on design work creating interface and visual design solutions from concept to final deliverable
* Creation of storyboards, layouts, comps, visual compositions, presentations, graphics and other design artifacts
* Enterprise Design Thinking facilitation in both internal workshops and client meetings
* Working with user experience designers, visual designers, design researchers and developers to ensure delightful user experiences
* Articulating and defending design choices using user research, heuristics and usability standards
* Mentorship of other team members
* Thought leadership in both design and blockchain, demonstrating eminence through external speaking engagements, attending conferences, participating in podcasts, authoring blogs and other related activities
* Inspiring and cultivating a team culture that values diversity, inclusion and equity in the spirit of encouraging all members to bring their "whole selves to work"

* Excellent strategic skills in assessing business and user scenarios, approaches and deliverables
* Demonstrated ability to synthesize real user feedback into designs
* Solid understanding of mobile and desktop graphic techniques and production practices
* Working knowledge of how compositions translate to HTML, JavaScript and CSS used to deliver feasible designs
* Ability to work independently, when needed, as well as collaborate with a cross-functional team
* Ability to work with brand and design guidelines
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
* Outstanding storytelling and presentation skills
* Exceptional attention to detail

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

* Qualifications:
* 10+ years of experience in design
* Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite
* Portfolio that displays a solid understanding of design research, user experience, visual design or front-end development principles
* Familiarity with industry, design and web trends
* Pragmatism in negotiating tradeoffs and plans, informed by stakeholder and user inputs
* Demonstration of committed and respectful collaboration between members of cross-functional teams
* Readiness for global travel up to 30% annually (likely 1-2 trips per month)
* English: Fluent
* This position reports to the Design Partner for IBM Blockchain Services, based in Austin, TX.
