Job Description We are hiring a Software Architect to join our Innovation Lab Team to create proof of concepts, rapidly prototype, and explore new technologies that are changing the built world. Our Innovation Lab is in the CODA Building (Tech Square next to Georgia Tech) in Atlanta. If you join the team you will be working closely with the Ferguson Ventures team and interact regularly with many other Ferguson Business, Operations, and IT Teams. In general, the Innovation Lab Team is responsible for the following Developing Prototypes using the latest technologies available to explore opportunities exposed by Executive Leadership and sponsored by the Ferguson Business Units Vetting and Mentoring new partnerships and proof of concepts with industry startups and Ferguson Business Units bull Evaluating technical integrations and capabilities of partners Interacting with multiple technical experts from the university systems to evolve prototypes and other concepts Effectively communicate, and Research New and Emerging Technologies As a member of the Ferguson Ventures Innovation Lab you will need a passion for New Technology, enjoy prototyping and challenging the status quo. One week you may be prototyping a new voice skill and the week after you might be building a react native app to test an integration for the latest computer vision SDK. You will need to be able to adapt to many different situations and problems at time may be vague requiring you to analyze the data to help create a new and innovative solution. General curiosity and some self-directed experiences around Voice, ARVR, AIML, IoT, 5G, Cloud, Blockchain, and Drones would be a positive. We love candidates who are passionate about technology! Our development methodology is Agile. We are constantly working through a prioritized backlog of projects, talking to stakeholders and sponsors, delivering demos, and iterating. We choose working demos over presentations. Here are some things we've worked on recently that might give you a better sense of what you'll be doing day to day Explore the latest Azure Image Recognition capabilities as it applies to Construction Prototype a computer vision Machine Learning Algorithm Prototype a VR experience to work within Ferguson Showrooms Virtual Showrooms Delivering learning points documentation blockchain an how it applies to our industry Job Functions and Responsibilities As an Innovation Lab Architect, you will create proof of concepts, and rapid prototypes. Areas of responsibility include analysis of functional requirements, brainstorming new more innovative ways to do things, development of technical design documents, development of applications and coordinating software implementation. Critical activities include ensuring development coincides with stakeholder requirements, collaborating with developers to address any coding conflicts or concerns, coordinating and working with Quality Assurance and Business Analyst groups to ensure proper function of development. JOB DUTIESDevelop prototypes using the latest technologies available to help the business innovate and rapidly iterate and test ideas Research and learn new technologies recommend how the company should use them Build technical designs that properly leverage our architecture using industry standard notation Complete medium projects independently from design through implementation, working with other teams Based on previous experience, provide input and best practice feedback for the software development life cycle methodologies, processes and procedures Design and execute unit testing procedures bull Analyze existing code and make updates to decrease run time and more efficiently use system resources Perform thorough code reviews, with a strong emphasis on structural issues, code maintainability, and performance. Provide estimates for development work and meet deadlines bull Work with Business Analysts, Solution Managers, and other developers to address requirement questions and design scalable solutions Work with peers, architects, team leads and supervisors in a collaborative and shared-learning environment Stay up to date with current evolution of existing technology and suggest alternate solutions or an upgrade path forward In addition to the essential job duties identified, all associates will perform duties as requested by management on demand context switching is a way of life in the Innovation Lab AREAS OF IMPACT Teams Developers will be given projects dealing with various resources, technologies and projects. They will work with members of the IT department including, but not limited to Quality Assurance Analysts, Business Analysts, Project Managers, Architects and Solution Managers to identify and create an optimal prototype to fulfil a business request. Business Environment The work may be any shape, size and complexity with varying durations and scope. The work managed will provide the developer an opportunity to become familiar with Ferguson's architecture and SDLC processes and procedures. Problem SolvingProblems and issues faced are vague and will need analysis to understand and solution Checks and makes minor adjustments to work methods to solve problems that are occasionally outside existing work processes and systems Ability to Multi-task Utilizes references or norms andor standard procedures to elevate issues (e.g., operating manuals, ability to discuss in teams, or escalate issues to supervisor) General curiosity and maybe some self-directed project experiences around Voice, ARVR, AIML, IoT, 5G, Cloud, Blockchain, and Drones We love candidates who are passionate about construction technologies!! QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education Experience A Master's Degree in Computer Science is required. Applies broad job knowledge of own job area or basic job knowledge across multiple job areas. Technical SkillsMinimum of 10 years' experience in various technology roles Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology Experience with Microsoft Azure a plus Experience with ReactReact Native a Plus Aptitude for analyzing data and business processes Strong organizational skills Experience with and understanding of SDLC in Agile and DevOps methodologies Experience working with multi-level platforms Demonstrates the ability to follow instructions while also applying learned knowledge Communicates effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in written and non-written formats. Working Cadence The team is working remote until we all feel safe. We expect the candidate selected to be in proximity to our Physical Lab space (Georgia Tech in Atlanta Georgia) and plan to work in the lab once it is fully safe and secure. Until that time, a high-speed internet connection is required to function.
