The opportunity
Uphold is looking for a Data Analyst to join our Compliance team. You will be responsible for performing data analysis and synthesizing results to provide insights to drive management decision making. You will be a member of the Compliance team, but will work closely with our data team. You will also have a key role interfacing with our engineering team and external vendors who support the Compliance team's mission.
Areas of focus will include
Exploring and interpreting data sets to support all aspects of Compliance's mission.
Detection of anomalies in our user and transaction data to prevent exploitation of our platform and the detection of potential financial criminal activity.
Clearly documenting and communicating the conclusions of your analysis to senior management to inform strategic decision making.
Interacting with our engineering team and external vendors to implement controls and process changes driven by the conclusions of your analysis.
What you'll be doing primarily
Exploring and interpreting complex data sets and analyzing results, being able to identify and interpret trends or patterns.
Translating business questions and objectives into metrics and KPIs that can be informed by data analysis.
Conducting in-depth data explorations and analysis used by compliance to increase efficiency, reduce risk exposure, and inform strategic decision making.
Automating processes for gathering and exposing internal data to compliance stakeholders.
Developing and refining control processes to manage risk exposure, detect and act on anomalies user behavior.
Interface with engineers and vendors on data components of Compliance initiatives.
Communicating results clearly, concisely, and assertively, either orally or via well-documented dashboards, visualizations, and reports.
Required qualifications
Degree, preferred in engineering, mathematics, economics, business intelligence, or similar.
Good understanding of relational data models and databases.
Experience with the SQL language.
Familiarity with BI/dashboarding tools such as Looker, Metabase, Tableau, PowerBI.
Good experience with data manipulation in spreadsheets.
Good analytical, programming, debugging, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Creativity, curiosity, and a growth mindset.
Team player with an ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
Fluent written and oral English skills.
Bonus if you have
Experience with data analysis to support fraud, financial crime, or Compliance programs in the financial services area.
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience with Python and its ecosystem, such as with Jupyter Notebooks.
Advanced knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning.
Experience with productizing A/B testing initiatives.
Fluency in cryptocurrencies or other digital assets as they are core to our business.
Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
Open-source project contributions of any kind, such as tools developed to solve specific problems you've had or fixing issues on existing projects.
